My client is using an ageing document management application (i.e. Hummingbird's "eDocs") which has allowed users to save emails messages from Lotus Notes as external files, with the contents appearing to me to be in DXL format (files include <!DOCTYPE document SYSTEM 'xmlschemas/domino_8_5_1.dtd'> declaration).
The eDocs software included a bridging component which would allow users to open the external email file from the eDocs suite, or indeed double-clicked from the desktop, in Lotus Notes. This correctly retained all formatting, images and attachments.
Now the client is migrating away from eDocs to TRIM, and previously mentioned scenario will no longer be possible. The clients will also be updated to Lotus Notes 8.5.3.
My question is - is it possible for Lotus Notes to somehow natively open external files with DXL content, and if not, what kind of manipulation might be needed to allow it?
Essentially the user would simply double-click the file from either the new document management system (i.e. TRIM), or from the desktop, and it would open within Lotus Notes, with all formatting, attachments and images intact. Is this possible? Thanks in advance!
